The elves did not invite me into the Silverwood. I want to be transparent about this.

I had been tracking references to a tea described in three separate pre-Elvish botanical texts as “the leaf that wakes like thunder” for the better part of two years. When the grove finally revealed itself — silver-barked trees, lunar light through the canopy, the unmistakable smell of something green and ancient and slightly electric — I did what any reasonable field botanist would do. I walked in and began taking notes.

The tea master who found me was not pleased. She was, however, curious — which, in my experience, is the more useful quality of the two. After I demonstrated a sufficient understanding of botanical craft and shared three specimens from my own collection that she had not previously encountered, she agreed to show me the Awakening.

The pellets — small, dense, dark green, rolled under specific lunar conditions by a process the elves have not fully disclosed to me — hit the water and unfurl. There is no gentler word for it. Within seconds, what looked like gunpowder becomes a full leaf, and the water turns the color of a forest in early morning. Bold. Grassy. Slightly smoky. A sweetness underneath that arrives late, like an afterthought that turns out to be the point.

The caffeine is not subtle. I was asked to leave the grove shortly after my second cup, which the elves attributed to my enthusiasm and I attribute to the tea.

175–185°F. Not boiling — the elves were very clear on this point and I have learned not to argue. Two to three minutes. Use a glass vessel if you have one. The unfurling is half the experience and entirely worth witnessing.
