The isle of Avalon does not appear on any map I have been able to locate through conventional means. This is, I have come to understand, entirely intentional.

I found it on a Tuesday, during what I had intended to be a routine survey of inter-dimensional botanical territories. The mists arrived without warning — a wall of white so complete that Mortimer, who had been walking three paces ahead of me, simply ceased to exist for approximately four minutes. He was fine. He maintains he was not frightened. The mists, I suspect, know otherwise.

What grows inside Avalon's boundary is unlike anything in the catalogued world. White tea blossoms that have never known frost. Rose petals that bloom in every season simultaneously. Fruits — mango, pineapple, cranberry, apple — that ripen not by sunlight but by something older and considerably less explicable. The elders of the isle did not give me permission to take samples. I prefer to think of it as unsanctioned field collection in the interest of science.

The resulting blend tastes, improbably, like the moment the mists part. Bright. Tropical. Floral without being precious. It is the only tea in the Atelier's collection that I would describe as genuinely optimistic — which, given my general disposition, should be taken as high praise.
